Now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have passed, the holidays are officially upon us! The U.S. Small Business Administration recommends getting started on a holiday business plan as early as Summer, but if December snuck up on you, don’t worry - we’ve got three ideas to make sure your business isn’t left behind during the holiday rush.

Don’t look past last-minute subtle decor

Recommendations to give your physical location the complete ‘Winter Wonderland’ treatment would be great if it were still August. But seeing as it’s December, business owners who are just now thinking about how to celebrate the holidays can take on a more DIY or subtle route. Changes as small as switching to holiday music or some outdoor lights can go a long way toward getting customers in the holiday spirit. Visitors will appreciate the season’s acknowledgment and any effort is better than none.

Say thanks to your customers - small and large

During the holidays, people reflect on the things for which they’re grateful and your customers should be at the top of that list for every single business. If you’re using a loyalty program or email marketing strategy, reach out to your customers and let them know how much you appreciate them.

If you don’t have those ready to go, consider offering an easy-to-implement seasonal discount or another logistically simple gesture of generosity as a token of your gratitude. Consumers will remember which businesses took the time to say thank you!

Start thinking about the next holiday

If you didn’t fully prepare for this holiday season, don’t come down too hard on yourself! Think about what you might want to do differently next time. Ask yourself - ‘What do I wish I had done to be prepared to offer customers for the holidays?’
